When the Omni Tucson National Resort completed its recent $30 million dollar upgrade, the resort did more than change out carpets and slap on a new coat of paint. In the first phase of a major renovation project, 79 rooms, the pool area and the Ironwood Ballroom were all revamped. The resort also added a new dining venue, golf shop and member’s lounge. “We aimed for a more upscale pampering experience,” explains general manager, Danny Goldmann.

To begin, guests are announced from the welcome center as they enter the resort grounds. By the time they reach the front door, a staff member is ready to greet them by name.

Winding walkways with pockets of outdoor seating deliver guests to the Mountain Vista Collection, where the spacious rooms feel more like a residence than hotel lodging. The vaulted ceiling in the bedroom brings a sense of grandeur to the room, as does the comfortable sitting area. The five-piece bath, which is adorned in plank tiling, includes separate shower and tub areas.

Close by sits the resort’s invisible-edge pool, flanked by four new cabanas and a bar. At night, copper bowls perched atop columns glow with gentle flames, bathing the area in romantic lighting.

Intimate is the word that applies to Bob’s Steak and Chop House located in the former Catalina Room. A separate entrance leads to the restaurant’s lobby. Inside, low ceilings mixed with a subdued décor offer a quiet venue for 56 dinner guests. Diners can also opt for the outdoor patio and enjoy a meal by the fireplace.

A second restaurant, Legends Bar and Grill, offers a more casual place to grab a bite where you can relax on the patio and watch the golfers finishing up on the 18th hole, which has been ranked as one of the toughest finishing holes in golf by PGA professionals. A new desert-style course is also available.

With luxurious changes in place, Tucson Omni International is targeting the “backyard market.” “Guests still need to get away to deal with today’s pressure,” says Goldmann. Tucson Omni will take care of that.

The Omni Tucson National Resort is located at 2727 W. Club Dr. For more information, call 520.297.2271 or visit OmniHotels.com and click on the “Find a Hotel” tab.
